Are you looking for an exciting way to get fit and lose weight? If so, try Zumba for fitness and weight loss. You will learn a few dance moves and burn calories while enjoying lively music. In fact, you’ll have so much fun that you’ll forget it’s exercise.

Zumba is a dance fitness program created by a Colombian choreographer in the 1990’s that became very popular in the USA around 2001 Beto Perez.

Zumba is similar to traditional aerobics classes in that it is basically an exercise program set to music.

What sets Zumba apart from other music based exercise programs, is its use of Latin style music and dance moves which make the classes fun. According to its creators, Zumba classes are more like fitness parties than fitness classes.

There are different types of Zumba workout classes, but generally speaking Zumba routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt muscles and burn fat.

So can Zumba help you lose weight?

Of course it can.

One of the most important things about exercising for weight loss is to exercise regularly. Doing exercise we enjoy helps to keep us motivated and when we’re motivated we tend to exercise more often and exercise for longer periods of time.

Exercise programs like Zumba can also help many of us stay more motivated because we’re having to learn something new, in this case dance moves, and that takes time.

Dancing generally is a great exercise because it burns lots of calories, works our cardiovascular system but doesn’t actually feel like exercise. The problem is that nowadays the only people that dance regularly are teenagers and young adults that socialise in dance clubs on the weekends.

Is Zumba a fad?

Probably. Most exciting new exercise programs become very popular quickly and most people get bored of these programs just as quickly.

Zumba has the potential to keep most people interested for longer periods of time if the routines change constantly, but chances are most people will get bored with those as well in the long term.

Is Zumba right for you?

There’s only one person who can answer that question; you.

So why not give it a go and see for yourself.
